Funds from The SHINE Initiative will be used to help NewDay Services underwrite the CPS FOCUS for Mothers program which is a 10-week early-intervention effort with an additional 6 months of follow-up including one-on-one mentoring.
Mothers participating in the program have children who have been placed in substitute care by Child Protective Services or whose children are at risk of being removed due to abuse or neglect. CPS FOCUS for Mothers includes topics like maximizing the mother's influence in her child's life, relieving tensions caused by family stress, communicating constructively with the father of the child, growing into the kind of mother she wants/needs to be, identifying the mother's positive traits, understanding the difference between anger, rage, and hostility, choosing attitudes and actions, and making plans to raise strong children.
