The SHINE Initiative

Therapeutic Intervention for Victims of Child Abuse

Serving: 225-275 girls

Areas: All of Tarrant County

Funding from The SHINE Initiative will support the Group Counseling that Alliance for Children offers sexual abuse victims. 26 groups meet for 16-20 weeks to focus on reducing trauma symptoms identified by victims of child abuse. These groups begin the process of healing from the devastating impact on the emotional, mental, and physical well being of these children.

Sexually abused children and protective care givers come to the Alliance for Children to participate in group counseling with girls representing 90% of the participants.  The dynamic of group counseling with other girls in a similar age group, led by a Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy licensed therapist. is a power antidote to the trauma these children have experienced and allows girls to be surrounded by peers who have also been abused. For many, it may be the first time they realize they are not alone in being a survivor of sexual abuse. The girls are allowed to process through emotions in a supportive environment, while confirming that the abuse they experienced was not their fault.
