2017 rise and SHINE
Grant Program Guidelines
Purpose. The Rise and SHINE Grant Program provides funding for nonprofit organizations in Tarrant County. The purpose of these grants is to encourage and equip service providers to expand or introduce program offerings for local girls and women in our five key areas of focus: Safety, Health, Inspiration, Nurturing, and Education.
SHINE funds broad-based inclusive initiatives that impact the overall well-being of girls and women in our identified focus areas. The SHINE Initiative does not fund services solely for selective or limited populations including race, creed, color, national origin, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, political affiliation, or specific medical conditions or services.
Eligibility. The SHINE Initiative will only fund registered 501(c)3 tax-exempt nonprofit organizations in Tarrant County. Applicants must provide their EIN, a local office address, and detailed information on the populations served within the county area.

Application Submission. Applications can be downloaded and filled out electronically, or printed and neatly handwritten. Please do not attempt to hand-deliver any grant applications. Applications may be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to 251 W. Lancaster Ave. #783, Fort Worth, Texas 76102.
To apply, please complete the grant application for your selected focus area. Please select only one focus area for consideration.
Please provide all requested attachments including:
2017 Organization Overall Budget
3-minute Video (Optional)
Regarding the 3-minute Optional Video: The Grant Review Committee realizes that sometimes the heart of a program or request can fall flat on paper. SHINE encourages grant applicants to submit a 3-minute video featuring a representative of your organization further explaining or adding “personality” to the request. These videos do not need to be professionally produced.
Please do not include videos from a third-party or promotional content about the materials/resources for which funds are being requested. We are not looking for “slick commercials”. The content should be much like an on-site interview with one of your organization's representatives and resemble an “in-person pitch” of the need for funds.
Please do not send videos as an email attachment. Upload the video to an online file sharing system (YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, etc.) using a private link or mail a DVD with your application.
Please note: Applications that are difficult to read or understand may result in lower scores. Click here to see a sample scoring rubric. When completing your application, please do not use acronyms or industry-specific language that the grant reviewers may not understand.
Award of Funds. One grant of $2500 will be awarded for programs/projects in each of SHINE’s five key focus areas. (Five total organizations will receive a grant of $2500 each.)
Organizations should select only one focus area per unique program. An organization can apply in more than one focus area for different programs. For example, an organization can apply for a Safety Grant to purchase a set of abuse recovery curricula and a Nurturing Grant to implement a new mentoring program. However, an organization cannot apply in more than one focus area for the same program.
The SHINE Initiative will fund only one (1) application from each organization. The maximum award given to any organization will be $2500.
Due Date. Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017. No late applications will be considered.
Signature Required. It is the responsibility of the grant requester to obtain a signature from the organization’s Executive Director or Board Chair in order to be considered.
If filling out the form electronically, the completed downloaded PDF application should be saved, emailed for signature, saved once it has been acquired, and returned by email to email@example.com. Grants submitted without the required signature will not be considered.
Grant Selection Process. Once received, eligible grant applications will be reviewed by SHINE’s Grant Application Review Committee on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. The Grant Application Review Committee will consist of The SHINE Initiative's dedicated Board of Directors and a small group of select volunteers.
Applicants will be notified of the grant award decisions by Monday, February 20, 2017. Following the notifications, a SHINE representative will contact each grant award recipient to schedule a site visit between Tuesday, February 21- Thursday, March 2, 2017. These site visits provide SHINE's Board of Directors and the Grant Review Committee members with an opportunity to become more familiar with the recipients’ operations and celebrate their success.
A Check Presentation Ceremony will be held Friday, March 3, 2017. All grant recipients will need to be present at this event. Location to be determined.
Five Focus Areas. Each applicant should use the application that corresponds with their selected focus area. Please confirm that you have selected the correct application by checking to make sure the title and logo in the upper left-hand corner represents your desired focus area.
